Print Time Estimator

Estimate the duration of a 3D print based on layer height, print speed, infill percentage, and model volume.

Quality Preset

Select a preset to fill in typical layer height and speed, or enter values manually below.

Print Parameters

cm³
Total volume of the model. Found in your slicer or CAD software.
mm
Height of each printed layer. Lower = finer detail, longer print.
mm/s
Nozzle movement speed during extrusion.
%
How much of the interior is filled. Higher = stronger but slower.

Advanced Settings
mm
Width of the extrusion nozzle.
%
Approximate percentage of volume occupied by solid walls and top/bottom layers.
%
Extra time for non-printing moves, acceleration, and retraction.

Results update as you type.

How It Works

This estimator calculates approximate print duration by modelling how much material the nozzle must extrude and how fast it moves.

Effective Fill Volume

Not all of a model's volume is printed solid. The interior is filled at the chosen infill percentage, while outer walls and top/bottom layers remain solid:

  • Effective fill = wall proportion + (1 − wall proportion) × infill / 100
  • Filled volume = model volume × effective fill

Toolpath Length

The total distance the nozzle must travel while extruding is derived from the filled volume and the cross-section of each extruded line:

  • Line cross-section = layer height × nozzle diameter
  • Path length = filled volume / line cross-section

Time Calculation

  • Extrusion time = path length / print speed
  • Overhead is added for travel moves (non-extrusion repositioning), acceleration and deceleration, retraction, and layer changes
  • Total time = extrusion time × (1 + overhead)

Typical Layer Heights

  • Ultra fine (0.08–0.1 mm): Maximum detail, very slow
  • Fine (0.12–0.16 mm): High quality, slower prints
  • Normal (0.2 mm): Good balance of quality and speed
  • Draft (0.28–0.32 mm): Fast prototyping, visible layers
